Fighting a DUI Charge in Pennsylvania
Is it worth it to try to win a DUI case in PA?
When you get charged with DUI in Pennsylvania, there’s a lot more to lose than only your driver’s license, even though it is arguably one of the biggest detriments to being convicted of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Besides your right and privilege of driving, you also face jail time, heavy fines, and a permanent criminal record that can follow you when applying for jobs, college or housing for years to come.
However, it is important to remember that until you are convicted, you do have the right to dispute the charges and try to get them reduced or dismissed.
The punishments are quite harsh for drinking and driving in Pennsylvania, even though it is such a common mistake to make. Fully understanding all the options available can help you to know the best next step to take in protecting your rights and your future.
Depending on whether this is a first DUI charge, second DUI charge, or you are facing multiple DUI arrests, the penalties for a conviction and options for fighting against the charges are very different.
The penalties you face are also dependent on the BAC level (blood alcohol content) in your system or whether you were charged with DUI of a controlled substance, such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or other illegal pills or prescription drugs, etc.
You may also face an automatic driver’s license suspension from PennDOT if you refuse a breath or blood test at the time of arrest.
In addition, being involved in an auto accident while DUI, can add additional penalties and charges.
