First DUI – Montco, PA

First DUI in Montco, PA

Information on What Happens after a DUI Arrest and Procedures / Penalties.

If you have been arrested for a DUI first offense in Montgomery County, PA you are probably wondering what happens next and whether you will lose your license. Like most DUI offenders, you probably have had no other arrests and are not familiar with the legal system.

You may be wondering if you will have to spend time in jail or attend drunk driving school. You also may be wondering whether you will now have a permanent criminal record for the world to see – including future employers, landlords, college admissions, banks, etc.

The penalties and repercussions of a first time DUI Conviction in Pennsylvania can be far reaching and last years. Even though most people who are charged with DUI in Pennsylvania are responsible and mature adults, the process and penalties are the same for everyone.

A criminal record can make your future much more difficult than it would be otherwise, not to mention you could spend time in jail and be forced to pay heavy fines.

You could also lose your license, which may mean losing your job. A DUI conviction takes a toll on families. However, just because you were charged with DUI of alcohol or drugs does not necessarily mean you will be convicted.

An Arrest is Not a Conviction

Fortunately, not all DUI arrests result in a full conviction. There are many options that may help you avoid the most severe punishments, especially if this is a first DUI arrest.

For instance, you may be eligible for the Montgomery County, PA ARD Program. This program can help you keep your license and your criminal record clean.

Being charged with DUI does not mean you have been convicted. There are still ways to fight and win a DUI in court, or other options to reduce the charges and keep them off your record.

Consequences of a First Time DUI Charge in Montgomery County PA

Pennsylvania has very strict drunk driving laws. Much of the penalty you face depends on your blood alcohol content level (BAC) at the time of your arrest.
