Sexual assault charges may not require force or threat in order to be a sex assault crime. For example, statutory sexual assault may apply – because of the age of the victim, a person can be found guilty of sexual assault in a court of law.

Unlawful Contact with a Minor or online solicitation of a minor charges can also lead to arrest and serious penalties, even if no sexual assault crime was committed.

If you were charged with a sex crime in Pennsylvania, a conviction can mean years in prison, decades on probation, and a lifetime of having to register as a sex offender after your release from prison.

The national sex offender registry is known as SORNA or Megan’s Law. If you are required to register on SORNA, anyone who does a basic background check or conducts a basic Internet search will easily see your criminal history.

SORNA can make it very difficult for you to find housing, a job, or obtain a loan.

There are many reasons why a person may press false charges or many instances in how both sides may have perceived the sexual encounter differently. And the courts and jury are there to protect people falsely accused of crimes.

Until you are convicted, there are many options to defend your reputation and your rights.

Defending Your Rights: An Arrest is NOT a Conviction.

Many different defense strategies to sex crimes can show reasonable doubt, including:

  • Mistaken identity;
  • False reporting / False allegations;
  • Consent;
  • Duress;
  • Insanity;
  • Intoxication;
  • Alibi, and;
  • Impossibility.

An aggressive sex crime lawyer will work to diminish the accusations of your accuser and seek out any evidence that can prove your innocence in order to have your charges reduced or dropped. They can thoroughly investigate all your charges, police reports and evidence to find mistakes by the police that could result in a case dismissal.

In addition, if false claims apply, a defense attorney can file a countersuit or defamation law suit if the false claim harmed the defendant.

If your charges cannot be dropped, an experienced sex crime lawyer will help you build a strong case that defends your character and helps you prepare for hearings and/or a trial.

An experienced sex crime lawyer by your side could make a pivotal difference in the outcome of your case, and therefore, your future.
